The Reason for God

The Reason for God

Timothy Keller, pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York, presents a case for the rationality of belief in God in The Reason for God. In the first part of the book, Keller addresses the seven most common objections to Christianity in our culture. In the second part of the book, he builds evidence for Christianity as a reasonable choice for explaining the world. Keller's book is intelligent and accessible. The Reason for God provides a good counter-argument to books such as Hitchens' God is Not Great, and would be an excellent resource for anyone interested in learning more about Christianity.

When Sinners Say, “I Do”

When Sinners Say, “I Do”

Marriage is the union of two people who arrive at the altar toting some surprisingly large luggage. Often it gets opened right there on the honeymoon, sometimes it waits for the week after. The Bible calls it sin and understanding its influence can make all the difference for a man and woman who are building a life together. When Sinners Say "I Do" is about encountering the life-transforming power of the gospel in the unpredictable journey of marriage.

Humility

Humility

C. J. Mahaney paints a striking picture of the daily battle quietly raging within every Christian and asks whether you will passively accommodate the enemy of your soul, pride, or actively cultivate your best friend, humility. When you acknowledge the deception of pride and intentionally humble yourself, you become free to savor abundant mercies and unlikely graces. You will find a new life is yours—a life God richly favors. A God-glorifying life you don’t want to miss.

Heaven

What will heaven be like? Randy Alcorn presents a thoroughly biblical answer, based on years of careful study, presented in an engaging, reader-friendly style. His conclusions will surprise readers and stretch their thinking about this important subject. Heaven will inspire readers to long for heaven while they're living on earth.

The Big Picture Story Bible

The Big Picture Story Bible

No child is too young to begin learning about the greatest love story of all God’s love for his people, as portrayed in the Bible. David Helm and Gail Schoonmaker have together created a colorful book of Bible stories written especially for children ages 2—7. Rather than simply retelling portions of the Bible, this book presents the big picture the unified story running through the Old and New Testaments. Twenty-six stories together form parts of this big picture.

True Riches: A Book Review

True Riches: A Book Review

True Riches, written by Wyatt’s own Ray Traylor, shed’s light on biblical stewardship. At the foundational level, stewardship is about more than money, it is about the lordship of Jesus over all of one’s life. When one is fully surrendered to Christ, money becomes a tool to leverage for the gospel.  In this book, Traylor does an excellent job showing the relationship of wealth to the Christian life. Plus, he goes a step further by sharing principles for building wealth for the advancement of God’s Kingdom.

The Knowledge of the Holy

The Knowledge of the Holy

This is a great “Introduction to Theology” book by a down-to-earth writer. Tozer examines in a straightforward way each of the attributes that make our God who He is. While most people in today’s society constantly try to define “a God that works for them,” Tozer unapologetically outlines who God says He is, and what that should practically mean for our lives as Christians.

Radical

Radical

“Radical: Taking Back Your Faith From The American Dream” by David Platt is a book anyone can read and everyone should read. Drawing on his experience of leading his own church to take some bold steps of faith towards God, Platt asks you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel of Jesus to fit our cultural preferences. He begins the book by explaining and describing the beauty of the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ. Platt then with a sensitive scalpel begins to carve up some of the wrong beliefs, practices, and lifestyles that we in America have adopted that greatly hinder many of us from living out the gospel of our Lord and Savior. Reading this book will help you examine your own life, your motives, and your faith. You will question what you are doing with your money and whether you are really living a sold-out life to Jesus. Your heart will be burdened for God’s name and honor and for those who do not know Him. Reading this book will be an encouragement for you to leave behind the things of the world, cling to the God who saves and transforms lives, and find joy in being “radical” for Jesus no matter what circumstances. “Radical” is a book for both young and old. Stop by the bookstore to find out more.
